Our Roots

The roots of any good wine are in the vineyard. When I started making wine in California a decade ago, harvests were still on the kind of schedule they had been on for the previous 30 years. But with each successive year, droughts became more severe, harvests started earlier, and wildfires torched vineyard lands with increasing regularity. I realized that I had the responsibility and the opportunity to do something about it, and that’s why I started Protector Cellars. A winery that would actually be CLIMATE POSITIVE.

What does that mean and how do we do it?

Our Juice

The most memorable wines are the ones you pair with memorable experiences. Whether that’s having dinner with friends, rocking out at a concert, or hanging in the hot tub after an epic day of skiing, good wines always enhance good times. But you gotta start with good wines…

After a decade of making super premium wines, I ended up with the access and the knowledge to make some pretty spectacular wines that you don’t have to think twice about opening.

Our Landscape

Many consider winemaking to be an art — a form of self-expression by the winemaker, to be interpreted and enjoyed by the drinker — so for me, there is a natural connection between wine and visual art. Since our winery is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the natural wonders of our earth, we are partnering with artists who are like-minded in their commitment to our planet.

Nikolina Kovalenko is just such an artist and we are amped to be able to showcase her climate-focused art on our wines!
